Inter IKEA Systems B.V. is the owner of the intellectual property rights in the IKEA Concept and the worldwide IKEA franchisor. Their assignment is to continuously develop and protect the IKEA Concept and to ensure its successful implementation in existing and new markets.
Today IKEA is present in 52 countries. All IKEA customer meeting points are operated by franchisees, with the exception of the IKEA Store in Delft, which is owned by Inter IKEA Systems. There are 12 different groups of companies that own and operate IKEA customer meeting points under franchise agreements.
The Legal Affairs & Corporate Governance department at Inter IKEA Systems provides a full range of legal service to all departments and business units within Inter IKEA Systems and to some other companies within the group. The team consists of 14 legal professionals of many different nationalities, backgrounds, cultures and legal expertise areas.
The IKEA Business is changing and growing, therefore the legal department is expanding and seeks to recruit an additional Legal Counsel IP.
The Legal Counsel IP will provide legal advice to various stakeholders on IP related matters. With Inter IKEA Systems being the owner of the IP rights in the IKEA Concept (including the IKEA trademarks, rights in IKEA product designs, copyrights and patents) and the worldwide IKEA franchisor, a big part of the role will be provide the business with legal support regarding IP related matters relating to the IKEA Concept worldwide.
The Legal Counsel IP will help the company and business partners navigate through an ever evolving legal landscape by taking action, instructing and supporting local counsel across the globe in taking action against IP infringements, identify IP to be registered and create awareness with the business on IP related topics. Also, the Legal Counsel IP will on a regular basis be reviewing, drafting and negotiating IP related contracts to secure Inter IKEA’s IP position towards its franchisees, suppliers, collaboration partners and affiliates.

With your eye for detail and organized approach you keep every aspect under control. You are at your best under pressure, know how to prioritize and you have a hands-on, self-starting approach. Problems are proactively tackled by your problem-solving ability and ‘out of the box’ thinking. Sometimes innovative, creative solutions are needed to explore all abilities. You have a business acumen and quick and sound judgment.
You have an international mindset, are good at building relationships and you have excellent written and verbal communication skills in English. Towards stakeholders you are service-oriented but also critical.
