What do you focus on at Voxius?

I focus on executive search and interim management for senior and C-level positions at the top of the Dutch business world, and I assist law firm partners and notaries with career transitions within private practice. I am also involved in strategic and operational consulting projects in the Legal & Compliance field. I personally work with a number of regular clients (with a particular focus on the semiconductor industry) and individual General Counsels. As a partner and managing director, I am also responsible for the day-to-day operations of the firm as a whole: from commercial results and financial planning to more general organizational issues. The combination of long-standing business connections, entrepreneurship, and a deep commitment to the work means that my time at Voxius still feels more like a hobby than a job.

What did you do before you started working at Voxius?

I began my career as a tax lawyer at Deloitte, where I advised multinational corporations and large family-owned businesses within a generalist tax advisory practice, with a focus on corporate income tax. I took my first steps in recruitment and selection for senior legal positions in the legal profession and the corporate sector at Legal Flexforce (later Hudson Highland Partners). That paved the way for my move to Voxius in 2004—at that time still in my beloved Rotterdam—where I was able to combine my tax and commercial background with a foundation in legal search to build an enjoyable career in executive search at the highest level in the Netherlands.

What part of your job gives you the most energy?

The close bond with clients, candidates, and colleagues that has developed over nearly 25 years in this field is at the heart of why I’ve enjoyed this work for so long. I find it rewarding to see how a deep understanding of the organization and culture behind a job opening almost always leads to a match that’s greater than the sum of its parts for both parties. In addition, I derive great satisfaction from helping to build Voxius itself: further positioning our firm as one of the leading boutique firms in the Netherlands, watching colleagues grow in their roles, and, above all, keeping the “gun and fun” factor in mind. That combination of personalized consulting and continuously improving the quality of our organization makes my role both varied and meaningful.

What do you do in your free time besides your work at Voxius?

Above all else: my wife and my children, who are in school. Sports also play a major role in my life, both as a spectator and as a participant. I grew up playing field hockey and tennis, and for the past 15+ years I’ve been active with ZSV Schaerweijde—including as team manager for the men’s first team and currently on the technical committee for elite field hockey. I also play padel and enjoy skiing. I’m an enthusiastic host: I regularly and happily cook for friends and family, host impromptu BBQs, and organize get-togethers and (ski) trips. Furthermore, I’ve been quite familiar with the NFL (American football) since 1985 and am a loyal attendee of international rugby matches. When my children were in school, I was closely involved through several board positions in the education sector.
