Terry Verheij
Terry has been with Voxius as a consultant since 2007 and as a consultant and shareholder since 2010. Before joining Voxius, he worked at two other firms and in the legal profession, including at Houthoff. He studied law at the University of Groningen. Terry completed the Professional Training Program for Attorneys and the Professional Training Program for Corporate Lawyers, and he also completed a mediation training program. He lives in Friesland.
What do you focus on at Voxius?
At Voxius, I focus primarily on placing senior legal counsel and general counsel, building teams within both the legal profession and the corporate sector, and placing interim legal professionals.
What did you do before you started working at Voxius?
I learned this profession and developed the necessary skills at another firm that specialized in financial services. Before that, I was a transaction attorney.
What part of your job gives you the most energy?
I often notice that clients have a fixed idea of what they need. During conversations, I sometimes discover that their actual need lies elsewhere. My clients appreciate my critical approach (with respect, of course) to determining what’s truly needed. Sometimes that results in more work for us, and sometimes in less. What matters to me is that the client’s needs are simply right. And if I can help with that, that’s great. And if not, I’ve still helped identify the actual need. That’s what I really enjoy about my work on the client side. On the candidate side, I’ve mastered the art of presenting career opportunities that are out-of-the-box. It’s not always about a next step within the legal field, but about a next step within a suitable sector or industry, product, or service. What’s the best fit for you? These are essentially coaching conversations that I find enjoyable and inspiring.
What do you do in your free time besides your work at Voxius?
I’ve been a member of the M&A Awards jury for 10 years now, which I enjoy doing once a year. I serve on the advisory board of a water sports company in Friesland, where we meet from time to time to act as a sounding board for the entrepreneur, who has to make all the decisions on his own to move the business forward. I also enjoy spending time on my boat in the summer, and my wife and I visit the Wadden Islands or organize even longer trips to places like London or Copenhagen. I frequent the gym and the tennis court to stay in shape. In short, aside from my work at Voxius, I live like a king in Friesland.
