(Senior) Legal Counsel/Business Lawyer – Capgemini

The Dutch legal team — based in Utrecht and consisting of 10 lawyers covering commercial, employment, privacy and compliance matters — is at an important moment in its development.  There is genuine ambition to invest in the team, raise the quality of the legal function, and build a department that is seen as a real partner across the business. To further strengthen the team, Capgemini NL is looking for a (senior) Legal Counsel/Business Lawyer.

The Position

This is a role for someone who wants to be genuinely part of the business — not sitting at the side-lines, but embedded in commercial projects from day one. As (senior) Legal Counsel/Business Lawyer, you work in multidisciplinary teams alongside colleagues from sales, delivery and finance, bringing legal rigour and commercial instinct in equal measure.

Your work is centered on contracts: reviewing, drafting and negotiating agreements across a wide range of commercial engagements, including complex IT contracts and technology partnerships. You are also involved in the legal and commercial aspects of tender procedures, supporting the business through public and private sector procurement processes where the stakes are high and the details matters.

Beyond transactional work, you are a trusted adviser to the business — someone colleagues turn to not just for legal answers, but for practical guidance that helps move things forward. You translate legal complexity into clear, actionable advice, and you understand that the goal is always a good commercial outcome, not just a legally correct one. The legal team has a strong focus on innovation, including the active exploration of AI in legal practice, and you will be encouraged to be part of that development.

You will work closely with the General Counsel for the Netherlands and the broader international legal team, which enables real opportunity to develop your expertise and grow your role over time.

You understand that in a technology company, standing still is not an option, and you bring genuine interest in innovation and the legal questions it raises.

In terms of background and experience:

• Dutch law degree (bachelor & master)
• approximately 6–10 years of experience as a lawyer and/or in-house counsel
• a solid foundation in contract law, with hands-on experience in IT, commercial and corporate contracting
• a commercial mindset: the ability to translate legal matters into business terms and engage credibly with non-lawyers
• affinity with innovation and technology, and an interest in how these shape the legal landscape
• Fluent in both Dutch and English, written and spoken
