Our client is a leading global platform. It connects consumers and partners through its platform in countries around the globe. Where every day brings something new, it’s legal department, which comprises of 50 lawyers worldwide, is looking for a Senior Legal Counsel with in-depth experience in M&A and commercial contracting.

We are looking for an experienced lawyer who has experience in leading M&A projects and commercial contract negotiations.

The position

As a Senior Legal Counsel, you’ll become part of the Group Legal team. We are looking for an experienced lawyer who has experience in leading M&A projects, commercial contract negotiations, dispute resolution and providing high level advice on broad topics such as consumer law, contract law and competition law. This role involves the management of a small but mighty team of lawyers and so someone with a keen interest in supporting and leading others is essential.

This role will include providing pragmatic advice to the global business on a broad range of M&A, commercial and contract law implications in a fast-moving dynamic environment. This is all critical to our continued growth as a business while providing the best experience for it’s stakeholders.

  • You’ll be a true legal business partner to the commercial side of the business, with key stakeholders including M&A, Treasury, Sales and Marketing teams, both globally and in each of our markets across the globe.
  • You’ll negotiate strategic M&A and partnership contracts.
  • You’ll act as a thought leader for M&A and commercial contract matters including the development and implementation of training, processes, systems and tooling to further support the company
  • You’ll be part of a fantastic team of legal experts across multiple markets, but will also need to be comfortable working independently, applying specialised knowledge with minimal supervision and limited input from external experts.
  • As a good communicator, you’re able to answer questions and present information in an easy-to-understand way. Balancing legal risk with commerciality and pragmatism is key to success.
  • You will manage a small but impactful team, supporting them on day-to-day matters and their longer term development.

Legal professional with at least 8 years of experience in M&A and commercial law, preferably from a combination of private practice and in-house roles.

The profile

  • Legal professional qualified in the Netherlands or the UK, or another common law jurisdiction, with at least 8 years of experience in M&A and commercial law, preferably from a combination of private practice and in-house roles.
  • A quick learner with a “can do” attitude and a strong academic record.
  • Experience working as a financially and commercially savvy project leader and interested to act as a key driver of cross-functional cooperation.
  • A confident negotiator with experience of M&A and commercial contract negotiations acting for a service provider, ideally in a consumer facing business. Experience working for or negotiating against online marketplaces or platforms is a real plus but not essential.
  • Confidence in Dutch and/or English contract law, with knowledge of contract law in other markets where the company is present being a real plus, but not essential.
  • Management experience and confidence working across multiple teams and geographies.
  • Excellent English written and oral communication skills and drafting skills. Additional languages are a bonus.
