Inter IKEA Systems B.V. is the owner of the intellectual property rights in the IKEA Concept and the worldwide IKEA franchisor. The company has the responsibility to ensure that the IKEA Concept stays attractive and competitive while enabling growth and a profitable business for IKEA franchisees.
Today IKEA is present in 52 countries. All IKEA stores and other customer meeting points are operated by franchisees, with the exception of the IKEA Store in Delft, which is owned by Inter IKEA Systems B.V. There are 12 different groups of companies that own and operate IKEA customer meeting points under franchise agreements.
Inter IKEA Systems B.V. is part of Inter IKEA Group which brings together three core businesses; Franchise (headquartered in the Netherlands), Range and Supply & Industry.
The Legal Affairs & Corporate Governance department at Inter IKEA Systems B.V. in Delft provides a full range of legal service to all companies and business units within Core Business Franchise and to some other companies within the Inter IKEA Group. The team consists of 15 legal professionals of many different nationalities, backgrounds, cultures and legal expertise areas. It’s a truly positive and collaborative team that works together to mitigate risk and provide quality legal advice while always striving to be even better business partners.
As the IKEA business is growing and transforming, the legal department is expanding and now seeks to recruit al Legal Counsel IP.
With Inter IKEA Systems being the owner of the IP rights in the IKEA Concept (including the IKEA trademarks, rights in IKEA product designs, copyrights and patents) and the worldwide IKEA franchisor, a big part of the role will be to provide the business with practical, business oriented legal support regarding IP related matters relating to the IKEA Concept worldwide.
The Legal Counsel IP will help the company and business partners navigate through an ever evolving legal landscape by taking action, instructing and supporting local counsel across the globe in taking action against IP infringements, identify IP to be registered and create awareness with the business on IP related topics. Also, the Legal Counsel IP will on a regular basis be reviewing, drafting and negotiating IP related contracts to secure Inter IKEA’s IP position towards its franchisees, suppliers, collaboration partners and affiliates.

If that sounds like you and you are a qualified lawyer (LLM) with about 3-4 years proven working experience in the area of IP law, including litigation and commercial contracting related to IP (e.g. licensing, franchise, development etc) gained at a premier law firm and/or a multinational combined with being a flexible and collaborative team member who thrives in a fast pace and transforming environment, then come and join IKEA.
With your eye for detail and organized approach you keep every aspect under control. You are a true team player, and at your best under pressure, knowing how to prioritize. You have a hands-on, self-starting approach. Problems are proactively tackled by your problem-solving ability and ‘out of the box’ thinking. Sometimes innovative, creative solutions are needed to explore all abilities. You have a business acumen and quick and sound judgment.
It goes without saying that you have an international mindset, are good at building relationships and you have excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
